Three Star Rating

EMH receives 4-star rating in Hospital Compare

Elbert Memorial Hospital is ranked a 3-star hospital under a new rating system unveiled recently by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) decided to provide a single star rating for each hospital making it easier for consumers to compare hospitals. The ratings are based on data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) as well as other existing quality measures publicly reported on Hospital Compare. The patient experience, safety, and timely and effective care measures include data from any adult patient treated at hospitals. The patient experience of care hospital star ratings were first publicly reported in April 2016. This is a step forward in CMS commitment to transparency by releasing the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating.

CMS compares data from more than 4,000 hospitals across the nation. Each hospital is assessed for how well it performs on 64 measures of quality and safety. Measures range from patients' perceptions of care - how well doctors communicate - to emergency care, surgical safety, and readmission rates. CMS awards hospitals a rating of 1 to 5 stars, with 1 star being worst and 5 stars being best. "The overall rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S." CMS says on the Hospital Compare website.

Hospital CEO Brandon Clary said, "We are indeed proud to have Elbert Memorial Hospital ranked a 3-Star Hospital again this year. This is representative of the high-quality patient care our Staff and Medical Staff provide to our patients and community."
